  • 12 oz ziti pasta
  • 2 cups marinara sauce
  • 15 oz ricotta cheese
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 lb Italian sausage (optional)
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cook ziti in salted boiling water until al dente (8-10 minutes). Drain and set aside.
  3. In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Sauté garlic until fragrant, then add crumbled sausage (if using) and cook until browned.
  4. In a bowl, mix ricotta with half of the Parmesan, salt, and pepper.
  5. Layer ingredients in a baking dish: start with marinara sauce, followed by half the ziti, half the ricotta mixture, marinara sauce, mozzarella cheese; repeat layers.
  6. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes; remove foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until golden brown on top.
